MAKE HUYTON VILLAGE FOR MAKE CIC
As the project lead for Make Huyton Village, I directed the physical transformation and activation of a vacant former Boots chemist and 1930s cinema site. I oversaw the fit-out, turning a dirty and derelict Boots the Chemist into nine private spaces and 24 open-plan creative studios. Beyond the renovation, I oversaw daily operations and health and safety compliance, while establishing an on-site Innovation Lab and community shopfront. By building relationships with local artists, residents, and stakeholders, we grew the site into a 93% occupied workspace that keeps community wealth local.
STREET AND A HALF FOR KINDRED & MAKE CIC
My work with the Street and a Half development focused on setting up the operational systems and community frameworks required for a street-scale placemaking initiative. I provided the practical bridge between the infrastructure design and the daily realities of incoming makers. My role centred on embedding accessible management structures, planning flexible layouts, and establishing a collaborative environment so independent practitioners could move in smoothly and focus entirely on their work.
NORTHERN LIGHTS
At the beginning, I coordinated the snag list from the main build and managed the transition from construction to occupancy. Over two years, I worked on the ground to establish the brand, shape the cultural programme, and handle promotion, building an arts-led community from scratch for over 40 companies and 150 people. My role involved coordinating day-to-day administration, planned maintenance, and complex tenancy structures within the industrial conversion, while dealing directly with contractors on site. I focused on keeping everyone in the loop, ensuring a diverse group of artists, makers, and musicians felt heard, motivated, and supported. By balancing the landlord's asset management goals with a calm, patient, and good-humoured approach, I dealt with complex situations while allowing tenants to operate without disruption.
INVISIBLE WIND FACTORY
As the office and studio manager, I stepped in to tighten up operations, introduce clear administration, and bring a healthy sense of accountability to the space. On the financial side, I streamlined the payroll, systemised company spending, and moved the studio pricing to an equitable square-metre model rather than a discretionary one. I dealt directly with contractors on light renovations to brighten up the environment, instated health and safety guidelines, and reworked the layout to accommodate busy production commissions. Alongside keeping the community organised and connected, I arranged an artist exchange with Subtopia in Sweden and commissioned a mural that gave the building a distinct identity at street level.
